Game designer Allegra Geller barely misses getting offed during a demonstration of her latest creation, "eXistenZ,'' when an assassin slips past the metal detectors at the door with a "gristle gun" made of bones and gristle. To escape a fatwa by "reality extremists," she goes on the lam with marketing trainee Ted Pikul. Unfortunately, her VR gaming device, a strange fleshy pod with nipples and an umbilical cord, appears to have caught a disease, potentially ruining the only complete copy of the game.
